Practise week - Coaching on training cases

(Daniele Scasciafratte) #1

Hi Reps,
with @jayeshkr we started our practise week so this is the notes about our first meeting:

1st case

The coachee is a part of a small but growing community and would like to know how they can increase their numbers, enable these volunteers to make impact and make their community visible in the local tech scene.

Jayesh Coachee

  • Visibility to a lots of people: approach university student not like marketing, they have a lot of time and interest
  • Weekly calls
  • Which area/context is comfortable to tech/non-tech
  • Activate mozilla to find a functional area to work and find a group of people
  • Have small workshop and create teaching kits to give them on weekly call, very knowledge about the functional area
  • Approach companies interested to functional area

Daniele Coach

  • University students is a good target
  • Weekly calls without purpose, organize agenda
  • Thinking target is important to find the right contacts
  • Have a person inside the university that it’s motivated to help you
  • Recognition stuff for joining events and goodies for them
  • Promotional stuff like a poster or a group on social media

2nd Case

The coachee is an existing member of a community who do activities as the opportunity comes (i.e new campaign, invitation from schools) making the community stalled sometimes. The mentee wants to learn how he can step up to drive his community to a better direction.

Jayesh Coach

  • Communication channels for the community members
  • Reach community people for seeking help each other like tech speaker as example
  • See the metrics, taking feedback from what I already done: how was useful for them

Daniele Coachee

  • Define the goals like functional area
  • Organizing your community members to different groups
  • Find a way to get updates about opportunity like local websites, social media, mailing list
  • Promotional boilerplate like graphics or example of schedule like talks or demo of functional areas
  • Weekly call or coffee meetups (on the location) about this activities

Second week

It is the same day and how you can say second week? Pretty simple we done the first few days ago and we chosen to publish today before our second meeting

3rd case

The coachee is an active functional area contributor who has contributed to a couple of projects but this is the first time he’ll be involved in a community. He wants to learn how he can reach out to people inside and outside the community to grow and make quality contributors.

Jayesh Coach

  • Find out the people very interested about your functional area (because there are non-tech/tech people)
  • Communication channels with this people
  • Helping him to get a working environment
  • Having weekly calls/notes based on the progress
  • You need to be focused or dedicated for a while about this topic

Daniele Coachee

  • How can I find the people interested about this topic inside the community?
    • Made an event - Jayesh
    • Find where the community lives online - Daniele
    • Ask to leaders if they has suggestions about people to reach - Daniele
    • Community leader might have the lsit of community members who are interested on contributing on functional area - Jayesh
  • How can I find the people outside the community or what is the best way?
    • Meetup or campus clubs already involved on the topic - Daniele
    • Posting on the forums/social media of the region based on the functional area - Daniele
  • Create goals before do anything

4th case

Being a new rep, the coachee wants to be more involved in being a leader in his community. His community had a lot of achievements before, but it all stalled as community members slowly became inactive due to organizational changes, community conflicts and shifting priorities. He wants to learn how he can move forward as it feels like a big task to him that he isn’t even sure if he can do something about.

Daniele Coach

  • Profile your community members to define the skills and what everyone can do
  • You have to define goals
  • What was the previous problems before to start to acting again
  • Plan weekly calls
  • Plan a schedule for everything

Jayesh Coachee

  • If you need to start fresh you have to organize on your own everything
  • Create a leading group and not only one person to avoid leavings and other issue
  • As reps my goals need to be respected

Thanks to @jayeshkr for this 2 meetings that was very interesting because we saw our personal experience and needs!
