I have read the recent announcement regarding the long manual review times, and I understand the difficult situation the review team is facing: a much higher volume of submissions, larger and more complex add-ons, and the need to protect users and developers from increasingly frequent malicious activity. We appreciate that security must remain the top priority.
I am writing about our extension, Monknow New Tab.
The last version currently available on AMO is version 4.6.0, updated on June 26, 2022. We also previously submitted version 5.5.0 on May 14, 2023. It was later taken down because the submitted source code depended on outdated versions of macOS and Node.js, and the review team could not reproduce the build in a supported environment. The feedback asked us to update the source submission so it could build with supported versions of the build environment.
For a long time, we struggled to maintain compatibility between Firefox extensions and Chrome Extension Manifest V3. This was a difficult technical issue for our project, and version 8.8.19 is the first release in which we were able to resolve it properly. This release also modernizes our build process and addresses the reproducibility issue that affected the earlier 5.5.0 submission.
As a result of these long-standing technical issues, we were unable to update the Firefox version of our extension for a long period of time. Our Firefox users have therefore remained on version 4.6.0, which was last updated on June 26, 2022, while the project continued to evolve on other platforms.
Version 8.8.19 was submitted for review on August 19, 2026. This is no longer our newest internal version. However, because this Firefox submission has remained pending, we have been reluctant to submit further versions and create additional work or confusion in the review queue.
We have carefully checked the submission against AMO policies, including data practices and the prohibition on remote code execution. We have also provided the relevant source code and build information needed to reproduce the submitted package.
We fully understand that review capacity is limited and that security cannot be compromised. With that in mind, could you please provide any available status update, and, if appropriate, consider this submission in light of the unusually long gap since our last available version and the importance of this compatibility update?
