Update existing add-on

Great, happy to help!

Hi again Juhis, I made a mistake and accidentally deleted the original add-on that we had on Mozilla. It’s URL ended in “jawsinspect” I want to be able to use the same URL as the original, but when I try to edit the add-on from Jaws_Inspect to Jawsinspect, I get the below error message:

image001.png

Is there no way to be able to use the original URL of the add-on “jawsinspect”?

Is this https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/jawsinspect/ the old or the new?

If it’s the new, it seems like it worked despite the error? If it’s not, I’ll need to circle in with our team tomorrow.

Thank you, the https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/jawsinspect/ is the old one that I would like to use once again.

Thanks so much for your help!

Tim

What do you mean by that? Given that it still seems to be available through that URL, I’m not quite sure what’s happening there.

When an add-on is deleted from addons.mozilla.org, it should free the slug to be reused.

The original add-on having the URL ending in JawsInspect is no longer on my manage submissions screen. It had not been updated for a couple of years. I don’t see a way to publish an updated version for it?

I can see two extensions on that page: the one that says “This add-on is missing some required…” and the other that was updated Oct 6, 2022.

Is the first one the old /jawsinspect one and the second the new one?

If so, there are links to resume the process or delete the first one.

Thank you for your suggestions. The first one is the old one and does still have some work to be done. However, when I fill out the missing information for the first one with “JawsInspect” as the URL, I get the below error message:

Hi Juha, is there anyway that we can use the original URL of this https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/jawsinspect/ I am still getting this slug has already been used when I try to use it again.

Hi Tim

Your description of the situation is really very confusing.
Do I understand correctly, when I conclude there are two versions available now:

There’s the old one at https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/jawsinspect/ (version 2.0.34.0 from Jan 2021) which you would like to replace using the same URL. You say you have deleted it, but it’s still there? (maybe you deleted a version newer than 2.0.34.0, but not all versions and not the url?)
And then there’s a new uploaded as shown on screenshot from 6 days ago. It should have version 2.1.14.0 (Oct 6th 2022). Can you post the URL to download-page if available, I cannot find it?

Are you sure you are using the same account to upload now, as was used to upload version 2.0.34.0 in Jan 2021? If we could see both versions on AMO, we should also be able to see if they are posted using the same account.

If another account (account used in 2021) is holding URL /addon/jawsinspect/ you cannot use that URL from a new account. You have to use same account.

Hi Stig, thanks for your reply. I apologize for taking so long to get back to you, but I have been out for a couple of weeks. I apologize for confusing you as well. What I wanted to do is upload a new version of the add-in which is v2.1.14.0. I may or may not be using the same account besides the one used in 2021. I am not certain how to figure that out? I am new to Vispero, and there is very little documentation on this add-in, or how to update it. You said if we could see both versions on AMO. I’m not sure what AMO is? Would you be able to help me out with what that is? I certainly would like to know which account I need to use.

Thanks in advance for your kind help!

Hi @tstevens

AMO is - in this forum - an often used acronym for “addons.mozilla.org”. I’m sorry I used that to a new user. I was confused by it myself in the beginning

Maybe the new addon version hasn’t been published yet, but if it has, could you post the “AMO-url” to install the new addon-version from?
The old versions are available at “AMO-url” https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/jawsinspect/ , and from that I can find a profile that only lists that old addon (public/published at least):

If you look at that profile-page and are logged in with same account, you should see an “Edit profile” button in left column (otherwise it is probably a “Report this user for abuse” button).

Thanks for your help Stig!!

Hi Stig, here is the AMO url of the 2.1.14.0 build which I wanted to replace the existing build with: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/developers/addon/jaws_inspect/versions. You will notice that there is an underscore in the jaws_inspect text which is not what we wanted as we wanted to use the same url as the original version. I made a mistake on, October 6th, when I first attempted to accomplish this and instead of clicking on the Edit button, I clicked on the submit new add-on button.

From there, everything went sideways. I’m not sure how to/if this can be fixed?

Thanks in advance!
Tim

I get an " Oops! Not allowed" message when I follow link to new 2.1.14.0 add-on. Maybe because it is not yet published?
But that means I cannot verify the new and old versions are posted from same account.
Do you see both old a new versions from https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/user/13884860/ ?

Hi Stig, comments below.

Hej Tim

???

I asked you some still unanswered questions in previous comments. If you want help from me, you need to try to answer those questions. I have an idea what might be going on, but as long as those questions ain’t answered I cannot conclude if it is really what is going on:

On this page, do you see one or two addons listed in top of right column?:

And what about bottom of left pane on same page, does the button say “Report this user for abuse” or does it say “Edit profile”?

As a reference, here is what I see on my own similar profile page:

(Two addons and an “Edit profile” button)

Stig, please see my answers below:

Hi Tim

I think this confirms my suspicion.

The good news is, that whatever you have deleted, it has nothing to do with the already published extension (old versions) at https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/jawsinspect/.

The “bad news” is that you are logged in with a “wrong account”. I assume it is an account your company gave you, and maybe it has prior been used to publish some beta or test versions of the extension. But it is not the account that has posted the versions currently available on AMO (above URL). Your company need to find out how you can get access to the other account.

As far as I can see from your posted screenshots, your current account is named “Freedom Scientific”. But you need to login with the account having the name “Vispero”.

Once you are logged in with your “Vispero” account, you should be able to post new version of extension, by choosing “New version” (and next, make sure “Where to Host Version” is set to “On this site”) to update existing extension available at the old/original URL.

Thank you for all of your help Stig! Hope you had a great Thanksgiving!
