i think in the MDN learning area, there is suppose to be a complete syllabus concerning Web development. For instance,SQL was not included in the course?

Hi @Akoto_Christopher and welcome to the community 👋

I’m not working for Mozilla or other organizations involved in MDN Web Docs and therefore I don’t know there plans. This is just my view as a volunteer on this forum.

The main purpose of MDN is to document technologies used in browsers. So it seems natural that the learning area also focuses on this topics. That being said with [Server-side website programming](https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Learn/Server-side) there is already a learning path looking at back-end technologies. Maybe this will get extended in the future to also cover database interactions.

As many others I am working on front-end and back-end development and understand your request for SQL being included in the learning area. 😊

Michael

Hey,

I’m not the only one who feels that MDN’s Learning Area mostly focuses on front-end web development like HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, along with basic web concepts. It doesn’t cover everything, so topics like SQL and other back-end skills aren’t included. MDN is great for learning how to build websites and how the web works in the browser, but for back-end skills you’ll need to look elsewhere.

Hi @Akoto_Christopher !

If you’re looking for a broader web development learning path, MDN has expanded and reorganized its learning materials since this discussion started.

You can start here:

[MDN Learn Web Development](https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Learn_web_development) — structured learning paths for HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and more.

[Server-side website programming](https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Learn_web_development/Extensions/Server-side) — an introduction to backend development, including Django and Express.

[MDN Curriculum](https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/curriculum/) — a curriculum outlining the core skills for aspiring front-end developers.

Regarding SQL, it is useful for backend development and working with databases, but MDN primarily focuses on web technologies and the skills needed to build for the web rather than providing a complete course on every related technology.

If your goal is full-stack development, I’d recommend studying SQL alongside a backend framework and learning how to connect your application to a database.

Hope this helps!
Regards, AC1DST4R
