Why it is so difficult to add/change the search engine?

Hi everyone;
I was wondering why it is so hard to add a search engine in Firefox;
I means I would like Qwant by default, but no I have to install a plugin, hide the icons, …
Why I can’t simply add https://qwant.com/%s without plugin ?
Same thing for my own instance of searx

Why I need to add junk to my browser to simply change my search engine at the end google search is not proposed as a plugin

Hi JOduMonT,

IMO It’s pretty easy to add Qwant as a search engine.

Once you go to https://www.qwant.com/ you will see a little green plus sign in the search bar.

If you click on it you should see the Qwant’s favicon at the bottom of the drop-down.

Just click on it.
AFAIK, no plugin is installed.

thanks for your reply

with a brand new installation of firefox 95.0 (64-bit) on Ubuntu
I don’t see the search bar

and if I go to qwant
Add Qwant to Firefox direct me to the add-ons page

but yes with the search bar it is pretty easy
except it is not their by default :wink:

If you don’t use a separate search bar, you can also use the address bar, just click in the URL, and select the icon with the plus sign at the bottom. I made a screenshot, here I can add Quant with its icon, between PeerTube and the Bookmark button.

I will second the OP’s simple solution. Even in Firefox for Android you can now add a search engine by adding the URL.
