Iceraven mobile browser

Splitting this topic out from Add-on support in new Firefox for Android.

I found IceRaven mobile browser the closest solution to bringing back features from Fennec. It’s a fork of Fenix developed by volunteers.

Its interface is nearly all based on Fenix but it includes about:config and support for quite a few extensions not on Fenix. I like to think of IceRaven as a proof of concept for Fenix in its ideal form. Some volunteers are proving Fenix can work better for users if Mozilla took the right steps.

The real sticker for me at the moment is real tabbed browsing support. I mean, where is the tab bar if there is no tab? Gah!

Thanks a lot for mentioning this repo. Although this might not be the best place to suggest a fork, I consider the Iceraven fork a good step stone towards better addon support in Fenix.

To check whether basic functions of my favorite addons work on Fenix or not, I need to install web-ext, setup ADB, and much more debugging headaches for every addon. That is quite time consuming.

On the contrary, with Iceraven, I can add all addons I want to test into an AMO collection and specify that collection ID in Iceraven. Much faster than the web-ext way

Now I found an addon not fully working on Fenix as browser.permissions.request [1] seems to do nothing on Fenix. The question is: what is the best place to report it? There are lots of bug trackers - Bugzilla, Fenix on GitHub, android-components on GitHub, … I’m confused

Hi @chyen!

Now I found an addon not fully working on Fenix as browser.permissions.request

What was the add-on? I’m happy to look into it.

The question is: what is the best place to report it?

This one should be filed to Bugzilla in GeckoView :: Extensions.

Sorry for messing up the original step and thanks for splitting Iceraven to a new thread.

What was the add-on? I’m happy to look into it.

It’s https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/ublacklist/

This one should be filed to Bugzilla in GeckoView :: Extensions .

Thanks! I will report there.

Update: reported as https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1667148

Update 2: somehow I didn’t find https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1601420 already talks about the exact feature

Firefox Nightly now allows customize the “granted” addon collection ID like IceRaven did [1] - switching back. Thanks a lot for IceRaven developers as a pioneer and Mozilla developers for making it official!

One of us is.

My addons work fine. It seems stable for what I do.

But the user interface is very poor - on a tablet anyway. Is the Ice Raven UI any different?

Iceraven is kinda the same, but with some more add ons
