Does Pontoon have automatic checks?

Hello,

For AntennaPod we’re thinking about moving to an open source translation system. Weblate and Pontoon currently seem to be on the table.

Weblate has a system with automatic checks, which helps translators and reviewers to avoid mistakes ending up in the translations.

Is there a similar system/functionality in Pontoon, by any chance?

Yes, Pontoon supports quality checks. Some of them are internal, the rest are powered by two external libraries - Translate Toolkit and compare-locales.
