Does Thunderbird still use XUL?

The build a Thunderbird extension tutorial linked to from https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Mozilla/Thunderbird/Thunderbird_extensions is listed as “outdated.” It mentions using XUL for the user interface.

If I understand what I’ve read, Firefox has move away from XUL entirely.

Is Thunderbird going to do the same?

I’ve never built an add-on for either Firefox or Thunderbird. So I’d like to make sure I start out on the right track… Any tips would be appreciated. Especially on how to determine if a random tutorial I find via search is up to date enough to rely on.

Have a look at https://wiki.mozilla.org/Thunderbird/Add-ons_Guide_57

Thanks, that helps a bit. It does answer the question about XUL.

Though, from that page, and what I’ve seen in mozilla.dev.apps.thunderbird, there isn’t a current introductory tutorial.

From what I can tell, I need to download a few working extensions, and learn from them. Or, download an old version of Thunderbird for with the outdated tutorial works, then use https://wiki.mozilla.org/Thunderbird/Add-ons_Guide_57 to learn what’s changed.

That’s not exactly encouraging…
