Riight. I wouldn’t want to expose my email publicly, myself, especially if I wasn’t notified, so I wouldn’t be surprised if more people will report it.

including me  Exposing mail address without user knowledge is against the law.

I just had this problem. I signed up a few days ago and, surely not coincidentally, I started getting A LOT of spam in my email on the exact same day. Thanks a lot Mozilla.

How has this not been fixed in over 1 year since it was reported?! This is just yet another reason I don’t use any of your stuff - get a clue.

Someone contacted me over mail for this matter. I’m writing here just for the traction of this topic. I don’t really know how this is not fixed yet :).

I was warned about this issue by an email message, written to by an unknown, random mozillian fellow (@chris, thank you so much again for your heads up!). This should have been addressed long time ago, frankly and it’s a shame that nobody’s currently in charge of maintaining this platform. What is Mozilla doing with its funds if it does not even maintains its community forums? This is a shame.

Thank you @chris for bringing it to my and other’s attention.

I agree, I was not aware that my email was made public, it is not a good default, especially in a more privacy-conscious forum.

How is this still an issue? It should be fixed as soon as possible. :frowning:

Thank you to @Chris_Hayes for notifying me, and a lot of people about their emails being exposed.

hey i just got an email about this. i haven’t used firefox in many years because mozilla is shit so this only mildly surprises me.

anyways since i have to change my name now and they allow very long names i got chatgpt to make me a better name: Due to Mozilla’s ongoing incompetence and disregard for user privacy, your personal email address is most likely currently publicly visible on the open web. To protect your privacy, you must update your profile name on this forum.

Came here thanks to the email sent to everyone affected.

It’s really weird to have an unmaintained community platform. I’m unfortunately not surprised.

Adding my thanks to Chris for their email. Can’t believe Mozilla hasn’t been bothered to fix this issue.

This just happened to me and trying to change it back was a bit weird because there’s no save button for that field in the profile settings. I had to re-save my generic profile picture for it to change.

Thanks to Chris, I’m aware of the issue too. Probably one of the reasons I started getting spam in the first place  Now I have to find a way to delete my account.

For anybody else looking, the problem is that your email address is used as your name! Go to your preferences and change your name.

Edit: wow, can’t even delete my account? Is this legal? Guess I’ll have to vandalise my contributions instead.

Pretty stupefying. I am reconsidering withholding some amount of my donations to Mozilla foundation least as a vote of protest over a lack of visible attention or acknowledgement. While Firefox remains by and large the best browser to use because of privacy, ignoring this issue entirely does not seem great.
