Error when copying a firefox profile to another computer

Hi,

I have 2 computers : a desktop and a netbook.
I’m working on the desktop and when I’m moving, I make a rsync between my /home directory from computer to laptop (with some excludes… but doesn’t matter).
When I come back at home, I do the same on the other way (laptop->computer rsync home directory).
This simple process was working well from several years.

But since few weeks, I have an issue with my firefox profile.
After the rsync (what ever the way), I can’t run Firefox on the destination. I have the error “Your Firefox profile cannot be loaded. It may be missing or inaccessible”.

I don’t understand because the computer and laptop .mozilla’s directories are the same !

Do you have any idea where the issue comes from ?

By analogy to Windows…

The Firefox folder has one or two files named:

  • profiles.ini
  • installs.ini

that store paths to your various profiles including the designated default. The error means that there is a mismatch between one or both of the .ini files and the actual profile folder paths.
