Hello. I am writing this because I have an idea that would make using Firefox in fullscreen much more comfortable. I am not sure if this has already been created as an extension of if anyone has ever considered it.
I am using fullscreen mode and I find very annoying that every time I move the mouse pointer to the upper part of the screen to show the menu in order to write a url, see the opened tabs, etc. the menu is displayed but moves the whole content of the window down to make room for the menu and not hide the content. That is really distracting and unpleasant, even more considering that the screen moves again when you move the mouse pointer away to make the menu disappear, and that this movement is not smooth, but a sudden jump.
I think it would be great to have an extension to make the top menu overlap the content shown by the browser so that showing and hidding the menu would be more comfortable for your eyes.
Hey @Jose_Luis, welcome to the Add-ons section of the Mozilla Discourse server!
To be honest, I’m not sure if its possible for an extension to effectively implement the behavior your described. Then again, I might not quite have the right picture in mind. What operating system are you using? Also, it might help if you could capture a video of the behavior.
I’m using a Mac laptop with a notch. When in full screen, the system menu bar is hidden but Firefox’s tab strip and address bar are always visible. I can interact with both of those without triggering the system menu bar to reappear. If i push the cursor into the top row of pixels used to show Firefox’s UI, the system menu bar comes back and Firefox’s UI smoothly animates down from the top edge of the screen. The content of the current web page I’m viewing does not move when this occurs.
In any case, what you’ve described sounds like it might be best addressed in Firefox itself rather than an extension. As such, you might want to consider posting your suggestion to connect.mozilla.org.
