Language Packs and Dictonaries

Hi, being newish to this type of thing, can some one please tell me what the difference between a ‘Language Pack’ and a 'Dictionary" is??

I assume a dictionary contains the words to check, is the language Pack the tools to check them??

If not, what does the language pack do, and do I need it??
Thanks loads
Martin

A language pack is an extension that provides an additional UI localization for Firefox. There’s not built-in UI to switch languages, though, so you need a language switcher add-on, or do it via about:config.

You shouldn’t need a language pack in general.

Dictionaries are, as you said, word-lists (basically) to be used by the spell-checking engine we ship in the product, to spell check in text areas etc on the web. The engine we use is hunspell, in case you wonder.

Thanks loads, just the dictionary it is then!!!

Language pack is a set of files, commonly downloaded over the Internet, that when installed enables the user to interact with an application in a language other than the one in which the application was initially created, including other font characters if they are necessary.
