Session Structure:

  1. Setting the Scene - 5 mins: Discuss agenda and session objectives
  2. Round of Introductions - 5 mins
  3. Landscape Mapping - 20 mins: Mapping key issues and challenges participants have observed in dealing with child data, local implementations and explore emerging best practices across geographies.
  4. Automation Tales - 20 mins: Understanding recent development in child data automation mechanisms, mapping benefits, risks, best practices and opportunities.
  5. Guide the Guidelines - 20 mins: Propose few guidelines identified from our work in India and request participants to give their views and help us improve it to produce an open working document.
  6. Next Steps - 10 mins: Summarize the discussion and propose groundwork for the formation of open working group to collect, publish and promote case studies, research papers, evidences, etc. related to Child Data.
  7. Open Discussion - 10 mins: Open the space for comments, feedback and questions

Goals of this session

With more children data being collected and processed over the internet, it’s essential to build robust frameworks for incorporating consent of parents and children, developing erasure mechanisms, assessing automated child data processing and other practices impacting child rights. Moreover, with GDPR, COPPA, India’s draft Personal Data Protection Bill 2018 and more, children’s personal data merits for a thoughtful protection. Thus, our session goals are:

  • Understand how recent data-driven developments affect Child Rights
  • Identify key issues and hurdles associated with Child Data, Consent, Literacy, etc.
  • Explore implementation stories from various Child Rights related Policy Interventions and Frameworks
  • Learn few best practices in terms of Child Data Handling across geographies
  • Understand the benefits and risks of automating Child Data Processing
  • Co-create guidelines for developing Data Privacy, Ethics & Security Framework for supporting Child Rights
  • Collate lessons from the ground and explore ways to regularly publish it
