Hi, I often have to download small executables and it’s very annoying that I cannot run them from the download dialog. Instead I must save them beforehand. This is annoying because it needs three more clicks until I can run them, and I also have to delete them manually.
Before the big API change there was an add-on named openDownloads which modified the download dialog to add an “Open” button. The add-on has since been deleted because the API change broke the functionality.
My suggestion is that Firefox should add a setting that adds an open/run/execute button to the dialog. It could be similar to security.dialog_enable_delay. For example: security.dialog_enable_execute.
Not having this is annoying for sysadmins that know very well how to keep the OS safe and prevent malware intrusion.
