Telemetry and "Studies" enabled without consent

I have been using the same Firefox profile for many years. This profile was specifically designed for privacy, and left exactly the way it always has been.

Today I notice under my “Privacy” settings that options to “Allow Firefox to send technical and interaction data to Mozilla” and “Allow Firefox to install and run studies” were enabled without me ever being informed. My Firefox install and profile predate these settings. If the first setting did happen to exist more than 3-4 years ago, it had most certainly been turned OFF. A dozen of these ridiculous “studies” have been conducted WITHOUT MY KNOWLEDGE OR CONSENT, on a browser install that predates their existence.

Please do tell how this is acceptable or in line with “privacy” and “user rights” or whatever Mozilla claims to represent?
