Ubuntu 24.04 warns about weak algorithm for mozillateam ppa

Trying to use Firefox in Ubuntu without snap packages. Instead of snap installation it is possible to use the “mozillateam” ppa, however in Ubuntu 24.04 there is now the following warning message when doing “apt update”:

W: https://ppa.launchpadcontent.net/mozillateam/ppa/ubuntu/dists/noble/InRelease: Signature by key 0AB215679C571D1C8325275B9BDB3D89CE49EC21 uses weak algorithm (rsa1024)

I guess the maintainers of that ppa would need to change from that weak algorithm to a stronger one. I wonder, how and where to report this properly?

AFAIK, this isn’t a repository maintained by Mozilla and bug reports should be filed at https://bugs.launchpad.net/~mozillateam.

However, Mozilla has an official repository for Debian-based distributions including Ubuntu. You can find the instructions on how to install it on our support platform at https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/install-firefox-linux#w_install-firefox-deb-package-for-debian-based-distributions.

Oh, that’s great! Then that seems like a better option than the ppa thing. Excellent.

Thank you!

Follow-up question: can Thunderbird be installed in that way also, or only Firefox? (because Ubuntu have started putting also thunderbird into a snap package also which is no good foe me as I’m not using snap at all)

IIRC, Thunderbird isn’t available yet in the deb repository but the Thunderbird team is planning to support it (see https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1893603).
