Upcoming changes to extension sideloading

Hi there!

I was a bit confused on the definition of “sideloading” in
this blog https://blog.mozilla.org/addons/2019/10/31/firefox-to-discontinue-sideloaded-extensions/.
Our extension is self-distributed. Since it says “support for sideloaded
extensions will be discontinued”, I wanted to understand the impact on our
customers accurately.

Based on Extension Workshop https://extensionworkshop.com/documentation/publish/distribute-sideloading/?utm_source=blog.mozilla.org&utm_medium=post&utm_campaign=2019-sideloaded-discontinued,
there are couple of ways to sideload a Firefox extension:

  1. Using “Install Add-on From File” in the Add-ons Manager

  2. Adding the file to one of the standard extension folders

My questions: Will Firefox stop supporting both of the above
ways in Firefox version 74? If yes, does that mean “Install Add-on From File”
will be removed from Add-ons Manager?

Thank you!

“Install Add-on From File” will continue to be supported.

Dropping extension files into folders that automatically trigger their installation won’t be supported.
