Amazing! I only wish that there was a flatpak for nightly + developer editions so I could actually test this easily
I’m not sure how the upstream version would get merged, but that sounds promising enough!
It doesn’t have to be difficult.
Just remember the TGM Tab Group Manager add-on that existed before Panorama.
I think the author was Axel Shootingstar.
That TGM add-on and the Vertical Tab add-on or the Tree Style add-on were all we needed.
Some people want Vivaldi tab groups, but Vivaldi tab groups are only nearly equivalent to TGM.
They just need to bring back the TGM tab group manager add-on.

My point is that just a simple top row of tabs (I don’t care where they are, but I prefer to be able to arrange them horizontally all the way to the edge of the window) for tab groups is all that is needed.

I really do hope, it will not look like this. And honestly, I doubt. Since this UI looks very much outdated. I assume it will be similar to Googles Tab Grouping approach.
I am not referring to the look of the UI looks. And I don’t care.
As long as you are comfortable with the firefox UI looks.
My preference is different from Google’s tab group approach.
It is more like the Sidebery add-on, or Vivaldi’s tab groups.
I am all for ease of use. So if you feel it is OUTDATED, you design it.
Since I have little interest in the look of the UI looks, I am fine with Vivaldi’s tab group as is.
Do you have your own opinion in terms of usability?
If it is just a matter of appearance and looks, I would like to see your design proposal.

In terms of usability I hope they will add a possibility to name groups and give them a specific colour (like they do with the containers nowadays).
I hope they will add a possibility to name groups and give them a specific colour ,too.
I would like to be able to name of the groups and color-code the tab groups.
If this is the case, then my wishes and yours are not in conflict.
POPEYE, have you ever used the sidebery add-on?
It can name groups, and it can color-code groups (strictly speaking, change the icon and the color of the icon).
I think that perhaps your wishes can be fulfilled.
And my hope is that the sidebery add-on would be freed from the sidebar.
The sidebar area is too small for tab groups. That’s all.

What’s the word on this? I’ve used various search engines and attempted to take a look at future milestones for Firefox, but was unable to find anything whatsoever about stacking or grouping. And I could have sworn itsfoss ran an article about that feature coming soon, back in March 2024. So … are we getting this, finally, or are we not?
That article was not updated or followed-up on, since then.
What is the release date for Tab Groups? Seriously I’ve been using Firefox since its predecessor, Netscape Navigator, and I’m about to bail to Opera!! Com’on, what’s the date? Ballpark even…
I’m grateful that this feature is finally (hopefully) being reimplemented. With the impending demise of uBlock on Chrome, many users will inevitably move to Firefox, and this is one of only a few features that aren’t in parity.
@Laura_Chambers, is there an ETA on this feature? It would make a wonderful welcoming gift to all of the displaced Chrome users who will be browser shopping quite soon.
I believe they’re working on this:
Take note on the last three bug reports (as of today).
Definitely there is activity there
EDIT: Saw this, also:
But an ETA would be welcome
Over on connect.mozilla.org this whole thing is being discussed, but I don’t seem to have a gold member club card to join the discussion, or I am inept with the forum… Why is there more than one anyway.
However, I really hope the upcoming tab grouping feature that’s being worked on right about now, is also, at least as option, automated. When you open hundreds of images across ten or so artists galleries or their sales pages, it will get a bit chaotic if these aren’t sorted properly and automatically based on parent page and child page. Ideally I see just one page with it’s child pages, and can switch between the parents respectively.
For those of you looking for this feature, as of Firefox 132, you can enable tab groups by setting browser.tabs.groups.enabled
in about:config to true
. It’s visibly buggy when you interact with it on your tab, but I’m personally very happy to see this feature finally coming to Firefox!
Good catch! Thanks.
Though it’s, mildly speaking, still unusable as opposite to e.g. Chrome Tab Groups =(
I totally agree with you!
Firefox Desktop is a great software but it misses some important features as the Tab Container as Vivaldi does! This is particular useful while you want to split pages into different Topics.
For example, I would have a Tab container to group Working pages; in other I would have Trip Pages, as follows considering own needs.
With current versions if you have 20 pages it’s a messy!!
Me too, I often use Vivaldi because there I can have Tab Container and so I can have dozen and dozen web pages organized in my own Tab Container that includes my pages split into Tabs. Firefox miss this layer.
Hope developer read it and improve it.
Best regards
