Community PaaS

In https://discourse.mozilla-community.org/t/giving-access/560/5 @mrz mentioned using a some sort of PaaS system. This would be awesome, because we’d be able to provide community members with access to work on cool projects they would typically need help from Mozilla IT to host during development.

Mozilla has a Stackato instance. Unfortunately, it requires Corporate VPN and LDAP. For the VPN, IT have to generate certs manually, since contributors don’t have access to the page where certs are configured. There’s also non-public docs on Mana, but they could be moved to wiki.

In general, Mozilla’s Stackato instance isn’t designed for contribution

I’d guess we have two options (if we even want to pursue this), work with IT to make their outdated instance of Stackato volunteer friendly, or build our own system. I have no idea what the latter would look like.

Any ideas?

I’d take a look at:

FWIW, HP recommends CloudFoundry ontop of their OpenStack.

I like this idea. I’m going to try to set a couple PaaS things up on a VM locally to play around with.
