Hello!
We have some new foxfooding to look at and would welcome your opinions on. Not everyone will be able to try this one right now, but the feature (if it lands) is expected to be for everyone and your opinions would be welcome.
Recently, we landed tab groups which is very awesome, but what if you make use of tab groups to help you to focus on a task - having only one tab group expanded at a time and automatically closing other groups.
This is where Solo Mode comes in. With two or more tab groups, open the tab context menu and select “Solo mode”. The current tab group will stay open and other tab groups will collapse. As you open tab groups, other groups that you have will close.
If you have a macOS device and wish to test this:
- Download a test build from https://firefox-ci-tc.services.mozilla.com/api/queue/v1/task/HdnLie3OTHmjXTd9seYslw/runs/0/artifacts/public/build/target.dmg
- macOS will not want to open it. When presented with a warning, select “Done” and in the macOS system preferences, under Privacy and Security, select “open anyway” for Firefox Nightly
- When the build is installed, do not update it as that will lose the new option.
- Head to about:config and create a new pref browser.tabs.groups.solo and set it to “true”.
For those that can try it for real - what do you think? Do you like it, would you use it?
For those that cannot use it (yet…) - does this sound like something that would be useful. Are there any user facing issues or concerns you can see?
As always, all feedback welcome below.
Thank you.
