Instructions for validation

Are there instructions on what to classify as “Yes” and what as “Nope” when validating recordings?

I stumbled upon various cases for which it was not clear to me if they constituted a correct recording.

Some examples:

  • Someone repeating the same (correctly spoken) sentence several times.
  • A non-native speaker being unable to read a word (e.g. “I’ve” being read as if it was spelled L-V-E)
  • Someone pointing out a spelling error in the recording.

For all of the above cases I have opted to press “Nope”. I could easily see someone choose the other option after some reasoning. Also, there might be other ambiguous cases.

I believe, it would be useful to have clearer guidelines to let volunteers know (a) what to do and what not to do when recording samples and (b) what constitutes a proper recording.

Cheers

Hi @jftr, thanks for your note here. Checking “Nope” is indeed the right thing to do, since it doesn’t exactly match the sentence in the cases you pointed out.

Also, note, we are working on improving the instructions on the site about what “Yes” and “Nope” mean. See:
