Hello! I am trying to create an extension that provides a different taxonomy for the history. It would help me a lot to know if it is possible to redefine the side panel of the history.

You can not replace the built in history views at this time. I am not sure if the history overrides from https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/Add-ons/WebExtensions/manifest.json/chrome_url_overrides are being considered for Firefox.

I will consider this possibility for Chrome. Although I will choose to create a side panel.
