I’ve released Typefill, a text expander for Firefox: Client Challenge
You type a short code and it puts in your saved text, with fill-in boxes, dropdowns and dates for the parts that change. Snippets are kept in storage.local and synced through the user’s Firefox account, and nothing typed leaves the browser.
The hardest part was not the expanding, it was putting text into editors I don’t control. A plain input is easy. Gmail, Outlook, Lexical based editors and Google Docs each needed a different route, and execCommand still turned out to be the one that keeps undo working in most of them.
The free version is open source under GPL-3.0 and I’d welcome any feedback, especially from anyone who has fought the same editor problems.
