Updates to metadocs

Part of our periodic maintenance of MDN content, I’ve been reviewing the meta-documentation (under /MDN) to be sure that it is up to date. Thanks to the recent work on the Onboarding Guide, it is much more up to date than it was a few months ago.

I’ve identified a few things that need to be changed, which I will move forward with unless someone objects.

I forgot one more:

  • Update or archive Subject-matter experts. Some of the people listed here are no longer at Mozilla. The list of topics is probably not current. I’m not sure it makes sense to try to maintain this list.

Archive it and point to the module list on wikimo: https://wiki.mozilla.org/Modules (or https://wiki.mozilla.org/Modules/All for a list you don’t have to page through).

QuickLinks: Yes, they’re still a best practice. The usage has changed some, possibly, however. We should review this page.

Agreed on archiving the persona-related stuff, as well as the content on zones. Not sure about doc sprints. Do we have no plans to do those anymore? I know it’s been a while, but is that intentional or just because we lost track of them?

New Compatibility tables Beta can probably just be deleted outright, I think, or replaced with a page saying that the beta ended.

Thanks Janet! I’ll ask our design agency for updates of the promotional banners.

Hey Janet, just wanted to let you know that I’ve asked the branding team to schedule the update of the banners. Since it’s not super urgent, it might take a while.

Thanks for reviewing the content, Janet!

We should also retire https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/promote, which will require Kuma changes.

There is follow-on work to remove Zones from active use and from the backend.

The https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/MDN/Contribute/New_Compatibility_Tables_Beta has been re-purposed for the new compatibility tables, so please don’t delete.
