In the past, I used an Ad Blocker with success. Then, after an update to Firefox, it became a problem so I removed it (or disabled it .. not sure). Still, I’m getting splash messages that say it appears I’m using an Ad-Blocker. Is this something that has changed internally within a Firefox update that I have no control over? It’s become enough of a problem that I’m going to have to find a resolution or change browser. I love Firefox and sincerely hope it’s something I’m missing that I can resolve with a little guidance. Thanks to all.
If you navigate to about:addons and select the Extensions tab on the left do you see anything? That should list all installed extensions including whatever ad blockers you might have.
Much appreciate the response. My Firefox (SETTINGS) does not have about:addons. Maybe it is located somewhere else? I looked under Privacy & Security … not there. I scrolled further down and see Extensions & Themes so went there. That produces a screen saying “Manage your Plug-Ins”. It shows two plugins … Open H264 (says installed by Firefox automatically) and also “Widevine …” to comply with some rule about encrypted media. That’s it. So no ad blocker is shown. That’s my frustration. Numerous websites think I’ve installed an ad blocker when I have nothing showing.
Click the ☰ button in the top right corner of the browser and select the “Add-ons and Themes” option. This will open the Add-on manager. If you check the address bar, you’ll see the page’s address is about:addons.
I’m actually on a Mac as well, but I’m using Firefox Nightly for testing purposes.
Yeah, no ad blockers installed. Hmm, curious.
It’s possible that some sites are incorrectly describing the issues they’re running into as caused by an ad blocker. Firefox has a feature called Tracking Protection that, well, prevents sites from tracking you. That feature may seem like ad blocking to some sites because it doesn’t allow the advertiser to collect as much information about you.
I’m not too familiar with this feature, but it does seem to have controls that you can use to disable it for specific sites if you wish: Enhanced Tracking Protection in Firefox for desktop | Firefox Help
