so when i submitted my addon i was asked to pick a slug, i typed something other than thedefaultslug and got no save/validate option, hitting enter refreshed the page bc i didnt select a category yet for my new addon [so enter submits it i suppose]
i typed 3 letters, and submitted it. In the submit it showed as the 3 letters Client Challenge but the email said the default name for publicication.
I then noticed a fatal flaw [oops] so i deleted the 1.0.0 and uploaded 1.0.1, and got a slug already in use error. i entered the 3 letters again and pressed submit and it went through, but now the name says its been submitted as thedefaultslug1, but i think it did register as an update to 1.0.0 so why did the slug change?
Sorry this is new to me, i never did this before. How do i make the official download slug also the 3 letters?
just figured out theres 2 now: defaultslug with as url defaultslug and on my dev panel defaultslug, and a new one which is just 1.0.1 with in my dev panel the 3 letter slug and in my email defaultslug1
i renamed the new one to gibberish and deleted it [renamed just to be sure i dont lock the 3 letters], so now i need to figure out how to rename the slug on the original one?
deleted the new one i accidentally made, uploaded 1.0.1 to the original listing and renamed it ot the 3 letter slug, i think i did it, but im not sure if it also will be published until that slug
Hi, and welcome to the community, and thanks for contributing to the open web!
No need to apologize, this is a confusing corner of the flow the first time through.
Here is what happened. The slug is permanently tied to the listing, and when you deleted the add-on, that slug was retired with it. No one, including you, can claim it again, which is why your second submission fell back to a variation of the default name.
We flag this during the process. The deletion step asks you to confirm because it is irreversible, and the guidance notes that the add-on ID and the custom URL cannot be reused afterward. It is easy to move past that screen quickly, so you are far from the first person to hit it.
For the slug you have now, you can change it from your add-on’s page in the Developer Hub, under “Edit Product Page”, in the Custom URL field of the basic information section. You can set it to anything that is still available, though the original three letters are gone for good.
One tip for next time: if you spot a flaw in a version, you do not need to delete anything. Just upload the next version to the same listing, and it will supersede the previous one.
ai detectors are going apesiht on your reply. so yea… needless to say i dont think ur reply is gonna be of much use. Can a real person:tm: plz give advice?
Nope, the “old” version is automatically disabled if you submit new version while the old one wasn’t reviewed yet.
So it’s completely OK to continue working on new version, while the existing is in review. Since the manual review takes roughly 1-2 weeks, sometimes I find and fix several bugs and submit several “new” versions for the review, while waiting for the review…
This is unlike Chrome store, where (before) you had to wait for the review to finish, or (now) cancel the release and submit new version.
I can’t tell how many reviewers there is, but Firefox dev teams are often quite small…
For new addons, only first is reviewed, then depending on the number of users and maybe some code smells the addon can be marked for manual review again.
And once you reach “too many” users, every release is manually reviewed.
The long review times are a pain indeed, but it’s a compromise for a better security in the store, so I would say 100% worth it.
it does say in a tooltip next to Awaiting Review “You will receive an email when the review is complete. Until then, your add-on is not listed in our gallery but can be accessed directly from its details page.”
but in incognito or another profile my extension isnt visible. why is that?
Yes, only approved (reviewed) addons will be listed in the AMO page.
Until then, only you - as author - can view the details page, and I think it should even say that in some banner, maybe like this:
ooh thanks! i heard from people it got set automatically and was unchangable, but i guess it is changable
i was a bit confused since it didnt give any availability notice or save prompt. when i pressed enter on it it submitted the entire thing. maybe thats how the duplicate happened
hi @redtropc , apologies for the late reply, I have been taking some days off due to illness.
Needless to say I am a real person, doing DevRel for the Add-ons team at Mozilla, passing only really information to our users So my original message stands, and I would really appreciate you being respectful towards me as I am to you
All new submissions need to go through manual review, and I am glad that you have found all the additional necessary information. Thank you @juraj.masiar for your help as well! Highly appreciated!
thanks for the reply. sorry for my initial response but its just a bit unfortunate most messages even on forums now both look ai generated, and also show up as likely ai on detectors. I dunno if theres a tool to quickly make a longer message with a few keywords on your end.
My extension has been approved! yay!
i am user 934839838493 or some number still tho, how do i claim a username? how does that work?
I am curious: which tool are you using to identify AI-generated content?
I use a database of answers to frequently asked questions to stay consistent with my messaging, and your case is one of the most common. That, and Grammarly, which corrects me sometimes, given that I am not a native English speaker.
how do i make an addon firefox 52 compatible out of the box? it says its corrupt when i try to install it.
i found out renaming "browser_specific_settings": to "applications" and removing the data collection policy works but its not signed then
