On-line meetings for communities during the COVID-19 pandemic

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, in-person meetings and events have become impossible or unadvisable in many parts of the world. As social distancing becomes the norm, members of our communities might be experiencing isolation, loneliness or even just difficulties in contributing as they wish, to the Mozilla mission. We hope that our Matrix channels and other channels of communication help you to keep in touch with your fellow Mozillians. However, you might wish to also have face-to-face interactions to discuss community issues or have virtual events with numerous participants. These are some options that you can use to hold Mozilla related community activities.

  1. Use Mozilla’s Matrix in-built support for jitsi video conferencing. Room admins and mods can add the jitsi widget easily to start an audio or video. Multi-participants, screen sharing or youtube watching is supported.
  2. Use jitsi directly. Another open source, webrtc alternative is whereby.
  3. If you are looking for e2e encrypted 1:1 video chat, you can use Signal.

If none of the previous options fulfill your use case, let us know using this form at least a week before your event is to take place, we’ll try to offer additional options. Please use this option if you need support for community-related events or for keeping the community connected

Very good options, excellent that we use the matrix channels and also jitsi for meetings.
A few days ago we were commenting on the Mozilla Hispano group about this option that the Matrix channel has, which allows video calls to be made.

Cheers! :beers:
