Report system not responding to racist slurs like "jap"

Hello everyone,

I’d like to ask for advice and start a discussion about how to handle discriminatory or racist comments posted in Add-on collections.

I’m an add-on developer, but the collection where this happened belongs to another user.
Recently, I found a comment containing the racial slur “jap”, which is widely recognized as a discriminatory term.

I’ve reported it twice, but even after a few weeks, there has been no response or visible moderation action.
It’s extremely frustrating that clearly unacceptable content remains visible, and I don’t understand why reports like this are ignored.

According to Mozilla’s community guidelines, hate speech and discriminatory language are not allowed.
However, when reports like this are left pending, it undermines trust and makes the community feel unsafe.

So I’d like to understand and discuss with others here:

  • How are reports for hate-speech comments in Add-on collections reviewed?

  • Is the review process automatic or manual?

  • Is there any way for reporters to receive feedback or updates once their report is processed?

  • What improvements could be made to make the moderation system more transparent and responsive?

If anyone has experience or insights about how this process currently works, I’d really appreciate your input.

Hey @aki009! Thanks for flagging this issue. I’m not sure what happened here, but I want to look into it.

For clarity, when you say, “I’ve reported it twice”, I assume you mean that you’ve reported the collection, correct?

Thank you for your response.

I am a Japanese developer of the add-on “YouTube Channel Blocker.”
Perhaps because the description is in Japanese, I noticed that the following collection had the word “jap” in it:
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/collections/17543054/anwkd9/

Since any additions to a collection are visible to developers, I reported it twice via “Report this collection.”
I have also submitted one more report since this post.

I’m not sure whether it was your action or the collection creator’s, but the word “jap” has now disappeared.

Thanks for the link. I also don’t know why it was removed, but I’m glad this was addressed.
