System status/health dashboards

I would like to create a system dashboard similar to these to show the current state of any Community IT managed service:

I have a couple objectives with a tool like this:

  • a good forum to announce planned maintenance.
  • showcase (the art of “bragging” is important) all the services Community IT is helping support/manage
  • exercise transparency in which systems are up or down

I spun up two sample sites to share where my mind is at:

I don’t want to be too prescriptive - there are certainly other solutions - but something like this I think is really important to have.

I think any solution will need some sort of integration with monitoring tools (for automated updates).

How do we get traction on this?

I’d like to see this as well, this can be where we grab the stats from that we can then post to our blog.

@mrz - when you ask about getting traction, I guess you’re asking how we go about making this a priority? Next step would be to find someone to volunteer to drive this with you as their mentor?

  • How do I find a task owner?
  • How do I find a volunteer to work on this project?

What I have right now is my night time hacking on health.mozilla-community.org along with Pingdom integration.
