Firefox (and Chrome) Password Manager: extending usage scenarios

The password managers in Firefox (and Chrome) are clearly designed for access to websites as for each password a valid web address / URL has to be supplied.

I have started to use the password manager for keeping other secrets. For example we have a key safe bolted to the wall of our house with a key for the house in it which can only be opened by tapping in a 4 digit code. I was worried I might forget the code so I have gone to Firefox’s password manager and created a fake URL (https://keysafe DOT com) and then entered the 4 digit code in the password field. I find this very useful.

This works but I am concerned that the fact that the password manager requires a valid URL means that either Firefox thinks my usage of the service is insecure or that they do not want to provide such a service for their own reasons or they have not thought of it.

I think it would be great if Firefox did explicitly provide a service of this nature because it would be very helpful. It does not seem right to be faking URLs to make it work.

I do not want to have a separate password manager because I like to have as few accounts and services as possible and I am very happy with Firefox.

I would be very interested in any thoughts on this issue.

Thanks so much for getting in touch, this forum is for the Common Voice platform and dataset but I can pass your feedback along to the Firefox team, thank you so much
