[What do you think ?] Preserving Mother Tongue

TLDR: What are your thoughts on passing on mother tongues/ languages to future generations ? - We would love to feature your thoughts at one of our Mozfest sessions

Hey Common Voice Community !

Mozfest is coming up on 7th to 10th March, virtually! MozFest is a unique hybrid: part art, tech and society convening, part maker festival, and the premiere gathering for activists in diverse global movements fighting for a more humane digital world.

Our team and community members have submitted sessions, if you would like to attend please sign up (free and pay as you can). You can preview the festival schedule on Mozfest Plaza.

Opportunity: What are your thoughts on passing on mother tongues/ languages to future generations ?

About the session

Following a Language reps session, we successfully submitted a session based on Bob’s idea called

Lost or Found? My Mother Tongue.

Young people are increasingly online through school, social media and more. Passing on languages to children can be quite hard when the digital tools they use or cultural assets are not available in their mother tongue.

In this lightning talk Common Voice Language Reps share their reflections on language revitalisation, maintenance and ask how can initiatives such as Common Voice be used to revitalise languages?

To help us frame the session, we would love to have quotes from the community to highlight at Mozfest for this session (you can also be qouted anonymously or with pseduo names). Please feel free to DM me or submit your thoughts on discourse.

Thanks so much for your time,

Hillary
