Add-On Removed without explanation

Hey there Mozilla team!

I have an extension, Marian The Librarian [ref:Addon#2935876] that has apparently been removed from the add-on directory. I only know this because a user reached out via a GitHub issue. This is the first I’ve heard of any problems.

This is what users see in their browsers.

Checking my inbox, the last communication I received was on February 19 when the latest version was shipped.

Your Extension has been automatically screened and tentatively approved. It is now available at https://addons.mozilla.org/addon/marian-the-librarian/.

Your add-on can be subject to human review at any time. Reviewers may determine that it requires changes or should be removed. If that occurs, you will receive a separate notification with details and next steps.

Approved versions: 2.1.0

Comments: This version has been screened and approved for the public. Keep in mind that other reviewers may look into this version in the future and determine that it requires changes or should be taken down.

I’ve heard nothing since and therefore can’t say how long it’s been unavailable.

Trying to login to my Add-on dashboard, I do authenticate with Mozilla (which I’m also using to login to this forum) but receive this error:

{“detail”: “You do not have permission to perform this action.”}

Can anyone help diagnose and/or remedy the removal? If there are any concerns with the code or perhaps a missed permission, I’m of course happy to remediate. I just don’t know where to start.

Cheers,
Jacob T.

Dude! This literally just happened to me. I had a private personal extension that wasn’t even available to the public that I used and it was removed too and the extension page says my account has been banned…No email no nothing. If I try to login to the addons website I get the same “You do not have permission to perform this action.” json message.

I wish you could use personal extensions without the need to have them uploaded and signed to the addons platform.

Edit: Addon ID was Bookmark Beacon is blocked for violating Mozilla policies – Add-ons for Firefox (en-US)

The same has just happened to me- I wonder if there is some kind of purge occuring?

I’m having the same problem. Can’t login to my account. Can’t see my extension. No warning. No information whatsoever.

Edit: here’s my extension: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/digital-carrot/

Hey chaps.

I’m adding to OP’s report to say that I, like many others, am in the exact same boat with the extension NihongoTube (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/nihongotube/).

I appreciate the team is incredibly busy at this time but any insight and or advice on what actions are available at this time would be incredibly useful.

Like many others I am completely in the dark for what the cause for the ban + removal is. Was this part of some automatic screening based on keywords or similar?

Same i am so confused , no prior notice or mail
even though my extension were for personal use
Can’t even login to my account.

Same here. Anyone found whom to contact for appeal? Support article says “appeal link is in the email” (that they never sent lol)

Hi! same thing happend to us the extension was ChillTools, it got removed for no reason, we got no email regarding that ban

Same here. They banned my private extensions for some reason

Dudeee, Same thing, My extension wasnt even made public, it was all private.
My account also got banned for some reason and i cant even log in

Same here, got a message in the browser that my extension was disabled “because it violates Mozilla policies”, eventually found out that my whole account has been banned (“This add-on has been blocked because its author has been banned.”)

Zero e-mail notification/warning about this. WTF is going on at Mozilla?

I’m having the same issue as Jacob and others here. No emails or notices, only found out because one of my users reached out saying they couldn’t access the extension (Tweeks) anymore.

Edit: Based on the other comments here, I am wondering if the ban might actually be related to an old private add on the account.

Exact same issue here. No notice, no email. Both my account as well as my extension were removed. I only found out because a user reached out to me via a GitHub issue, otherwise I would’ve never even noticed. Hopefully there’s an update on this issue soon.

Edit: The extension that was removed: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/submute-r-popular/

Same here, all i have(had) uploaded is a theme i share(d) with some friends, no email, no notice other than “author is banned” when attempting to apply the theme, cannot log into my account on addons.mozilla.org either, only noticed because one of my friends started up firefox and noticed the theme was missing.

Edit: the theme in question: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/lazycat-theme/
Published and approved on 17th of august 2025, and i have not done any changes to it since.

same problem here too, private extensions, never public, banned
what the actual f?

Hi everyone, and thank you so much for the report, and apologies for that!
I am Christos, Sr. Developer Relations Engineer from the Mozilla Add-ons team. I just opened an incident report, and please allow me 24 hours to investigate and get back to you, as our team is scattered across different time zones.

For people in this thread who haven’t shared their add-on id, can you please do it so I can look into it? Thank you!

What should users with private addons do? Our team sent a support email, but would prefer to keep this information out of a public forum.

same problem, ref id: [ref:Addon#2938696] (original source code)

My add-on also been removed for no reason.
