Documenting ownership of Community Sites and Resources

Now that the module has been approved, we want to get started in documenting and organizing the services.

First we need to document the owners of the resources. In the past, we’ve only dealt with the bug requester, but this doesn’t allow for multiple owners, or transfer of ownership.

Ownership Policy

Our policy is that a community can assign multiple “owners” for a resource. Our definition of owner is someone who can speak on behalf of the community for that resource. A community can name 10 owners, but if there is an issue and a decision needs to be made we will only wait for an answer from 1 of the named owners, we will not wait for all 10 to reach a consensus.

Process Proposal

We will file a “meta bug” in bugzilla, then file blocking bugs for each community site under it. We will then email everyone we can find related to the communities and ask them to participate on the bug to nominate an owner, to approve, or disapprove of the proposed owners. Communities will have 30 days to make their first comment or the site will be considered dead. Communities will not have to reach an ownership agreement within 30 days. We’ll bring in any appropriate resources to help resolve disputes to the community’s satisfaction.

Feedback

We’d like feedback on these suggestions but we also need to get going on this! Please leave your thoughts and share this post. We’d like to start the process a week from now.

Thanks!
