[RESOLVED] Incident report: developer accounts banned without notification

Hi everyone! 16 hours ago, we received numerous reports from users whose developer accounts were banned on addons.mozilla.org and their add-ons blocked without notification.

We immediately opened an incident investigation, and within the first few hours, we identified the issue and started working on a solution.
Even though our team is distributed across different time zones, we managed to restore access to active add-on developers and resolve the problem within 12 hours.

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this has caused you.

We also want to share some context on why this happened: we’ve been seeing a large number of malicious users and activity related to extension submissions, and we took action yesterday to ensure users visiting addons.mozilla.org are not exposed to it. Unfortunately, a few legitimate accounts were caught in this as well.

After we’ve resolved these issues, we’re currently reviewing our processes and safeguards to avoid similar issues in the future.

We’re sorry this happened and for the disruption it’s caused. We appreciate your patience and the work you all put into the Firefox add-ons ecosystem.

Hi AMO team,

I just found out about the incident since I haven’t checked the add-on store in a while. It looks like my account and add-on were affected too, and they haven’t been restored yet.

Here is the URL to my add-on: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-GB/firefox/addon/ptit-code-helper/

Could you please look into this and help restore my account and add-on soon?

Thank you for your assistance.

Best regards,

An Vu
