[Support] uBlock Origin

There is also bug about this https://github.com/gorhill/uBlock/issues/783

The link describe “cloud storage” and its problems.
Not what I need (or I don’t understand?)
I am looking for sync all preferences automaticly in background.

I don’t want to push any button to store in the mozilla clipboard my settings and restore them. Doing so I can’t get the settings of the other devices. All thre devices have their own clipboard, no access cross to an other device.

Why do this work in AddBlock and not in uBlock?

Scroll up.

This is not “mozilla clipboard” this is “Sync”. In uBlock this is implemented that way.

Your uBlock Origin settings are precious, and in order to prevent any automated browser’s syncing task to cause precious local data (or cloud data) to be mistakenly overwritten, the chosen solution in uBlock Origin is to never ever export to/import from cloud storage without the user expressly asking uBlock Origin to do so.

https://github.com/gorhill/uBlock/wiki/Cloud-storage

I you are logged-in in Firefox account, when you export settings on one device, they should be available to import on another.

Thanks @gorhill (#545). Yes, I am still using legacy extensions and finally I found out that e10s is “disabled by addons”. I think I will stick with v. 1.13.8 and check again when FF 57 has been released.

OK and thanks, I understand that there is no automatic sync by design.

I am not sure whether Firefox still supports the old way of syncing extension data – that is up to Firefox Sync server, and they may very well have ceased to support this in favor of accepting only data from the new API.

Hello Raymond.

OK, might be. But AddBlock is an legacy addon and sync very good automatically, tried a few weeks ago.

At this time I use only legacy addons with FF 52 ESR.
Will You support the legacy version of uBlock the next few month until 52 ESR is gone or have you stopped this?

I just now successfully synced uBlock settings from Firefox ESR 52.3.0, UBO legacy 1.14.11rc0 to Firefox stable 55.0.3, UBO legacy 1.14.11rc1 installed using this hack https://www.ghacks.net/2016/08/14/override-firefox-add-on-signing-requirement/ (see coments)

I tested again an it is possible to import the settings from the other device.
But the problem is that I have to do all steps by hand the right way and order.

If you store the old settings in the cloud before import and merge the new settings the new settings are gone… you have still override them in the cloud storage.
And that was my problem I think…

What a strange way to “sync”. So many work…
If I have two devices with new and different settings not stored in the cloud it will not work this way. I must save the new settings every time before I close the session and then go to the second to merge and save and then go to the third…

I am experiencing the exact same problem with UBO and Wordpress administration. Even after disabling UBO for the site. I also disabled all my legacy extensions and the problem still persists with UBO.

I actually had to disable UBO completely and install Ad Block Plus.

Has anyone found a solution to this issue?

You can try Firefox beta, and confirm if fixed by this: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1379148

Running FF 57 beta and uBO still blocks links on ebay and such.

As of writing, there is no plan to cease development of uBO/legacy. Hypothetically, this may change in some future if ever it becomes really non-trivial to keep a working the legacy version.

https://github.com/gorhill/uBlock/wiki/Firefox-WebExtensions#future-of-ubolegacy

This is all I can give you:
https://github.com/gorhill/uBlock/wiki/Firefox-WebExtensions#read-carefully-if-using-ubowebext

I have no legacy extensions running.

OK, I was wondering if the following question would make any sense: would it be possible to use an at least slightly and simpler way of syncing in UBlock legacy? If it is not supposed to go automatically, at least a common “export/import/merge” for all settings can be used at a time.
I am already so confused about what I defined when and on which device or which device is backed up (or not).
I am not alone with a wish for an automatic syncing: https://github.com/gorhill/uBlock/issues/783

Thanks a lot!

I’ve also got running Privacy Badger and Perceptual Ad Highlighter (I think the problem is with Privacy Badger)

Firefox version: 56.0 (64-bit)
uBlock Origin version: 1.14.10
uBlock Origin filters doesn’t update:
“A network error preventer the resource from being updated.”

Before some recent FF or uBO update it was working fine, and then few days ago I checked filters and found that problem…
Also, in Opera(48.0.2685.32 (PGO)) browser 1.13.8 version of uBO updates filters without any problem.

I can’t update any filters. It says “A network error prevented the resource from being updated”
