Happy New Month!

Hey everyone, this week I would like to share the following updates:

:sparkles: Next Dataset Release for Common Voice

Unfortunately we have had to reschedule the next dataset release. Please review the updated post to learn more about the changes: Weekly Update: 6th October 2021 - Next Dataset Release and Hacktoberfest

We are excited to announce the next dataset release for Common Voice will be on 15th December. Any Voice Contributions made before 10th December will be included.

:iphone: Common Voice Social Media Campaign

Launched on Wednesday 6th October, please feel free to contribute and take part!

We have created a guide to support the campaign effort access the guide and learn more on the discourse topic.

:hammer_and_wrench: HACKTOBERFEST ! Common Voice Contribute-athons

It’s Hacktoberfest! On Thursday 14th and 21st of October, we are hosting sessions to support new and existing contributors.

The sessions include lightning talks from community members using the dataset. We will also be running through the New language workflow and Language Impact Diversity Assessment.

:books: Hiring: Senior Fellow, Trustworthy AI

Mozilla Foundation is hiring for Senior Fellow on Trustworthy AI. The fellowship provides an opportunity to support independent projects in areas such as Open Source and Movement building. I strongly encourage you to apply if you have an idea you would like support on!

  • This week we launched the Common Voice Language Reps sessions with a social! Members come from a variety of languages such as Belarusian, Catalan, Luganda and Sakha. Once everyone is fully onboarded we will be sharing who the members are!
  • International Translations Day Blog featuring Jack, Solana and Paulina
  • Common Voice Community Playbook now includes guidance on using the Common Voice trademark.
  • Congratulations to Wim and the Frisian Community for their successful campaign which saw an increase in over 25 hours!

Hey everyone,

Our planned dataset release in December has to be rescheduled for January 2022.

We are welcoming three new engineers to the Mozilla Foundation in January, who will be dedicated to Common Voice. Until we bring on these new team members, we don’t have the capacity to release the dataset.

We apologize for the inconvenience this has caused, but expect that 2022 will be an exciting year, with lots of improvements, and more frequent releases.

Weekly Update: New About Page + Open Common Voice Language Rep Session

Dear Common Voice Community Members,

We hoped to release the dataset this week in the usual Wednesday release, alongside the newly designed about page.

Our new engineers are working hard to get this done, but the process is running a little behind. We expect to do a special release next week - but will keep you posted. We deeply apologies for any inconvenience caused regarding the delay.
